Marie Staunton

Bio

Marie Staunton is a well-known horticulturist with many years’ experience teaching and inspiring gardeners all over Ireland. She is a familiar voice on radio, regularly joining Claire Byrne to share practical, no-nonsense advice on how to get the best from your garden and create an outdoor space that is both beautiful and easy to maintain.

After a very successful career as an international model, Marie followed her lifelong passion for plants and studied horticulture at the National Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin. She went on to write a popular gardening column for the Irish Independent for many years, further establishing her reputation for accessible, practical gardening advice.

Since beginning her teaching career in 2013, Marie has delivered hands-on demonstrations and talks at horticultural events across the country. Much of the inspiration for her own garden comes from her love of fashion, with a strong focus on colour combinations, texture and flow, creating a relaxed, inviting space that encourages you to slow down and enjoy your surroundings.

Marie believes that gardening, like fashion and art, is deeply personal, which is why no two gardens are ever the same. Having worked with some of the world’s most famous models in the 1980s and 1990s, and now alongside some of the most inspiring gardeners today, she has a deep appreciation for where she came from,  and great excitement for the projects still to come.
